This project creates a VR experience of a victim of domestic violence. We expect to invoke empathy and awareness of depression and anxiety caused by domestic violence and call for empathy for the victims.

Concept Statement

Target Group & Users:

  • We will create empathy for victims of domestic violence.

  • Our targeting group are domestic violence victims who had been abused by their spouse.

 

Concept Statement:

The user will be exposed to situations in a virtual reality where they experience abusive behaviors from the spouse.

Goal:

The goal is to invoke the awareness of depression and anxiety caused by domestic violence and call empathy for domestic violence victims. Therefore the user can prevent themselves from taking abusive behaviors in the future and we can help address the social problems of domestic violence.

VR Flow Design

2 Scenes:

  • In the first scene, the user experiences the context where the user is a housewife facing the challenge of taking care of the child, with strained finance and a tense attitude from her spouse.

  • In the second scene, the spouse comes home and starts abusive behaviors.

3D Models and Interactions:

  • Used 3D models from online libraries including the stationary house and furniture, human avatars with animations. Also created new models and materials for dialogues.​

  • The user can control the camera navigation (translation and rotation) in the 3D scene and interact with objects through ray-casting by mouse (in Unity 3D UI) or VR controller (in Oculus).
